Firstly, colour and bright ones at that; particularly yellow. It's cheerful, dominant and will bring colour to all form of fabric and various shades are yours to choose from. Patterns are making a strong comeback and this time with pure white backgrounds making them stand out even more. Florals, vintage patterns and prints bold colours all sitting on a bright white canvas; marvellous. It brings a fresh look to every piece but be careful not to over-do it and make multiple pieces the same in one room. The effect will lose its effect otherwise.
Carrying on the pattern theme, it's not on trend to match everything neatly; it's about clashing and mixing textures, prints and fabrics. Create an array of eclectic items inspired by African, Mexican and all things cultural.
Tuning your senses to touch will be popular in the coming year. Designers are focusing on getting the user interaction with what inspires you in your home rather than sitting an object down for display. Neutral earthy tones are desirable, as well as wood, simple oak, beech or birch. Soft textures such as suede will be popular. If you want to accessorise do so with leaf motifs and woodland accessories, giving a rustic feel.
Retro patterns including botanical ones inspired by the 50s will be making an appearance once more, wallpapers especially. Keeping the botanical theme, add some cushions and update your curtains without having to redecorate the whole room. Mirrors that are grouped together, both decorative and functional. Small circular mirrors look amazing above a headboard or mantelpiece.
